Meet the Editors

WRITE WITHOUT FEAR.

EDIT WITHOUT MERCY.

Joanna, a former aircraft mechanic and Air Force vet, is the owner and editor of Global Bookworms with over 7 years experience as a freelance editor. Her editing career began in college as she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems specializing in Software Programming. She worked on fellow student’s papers and slowly expanded to authors and their manuscripts. After graduating Magna Cum Laude, she continued her professional development with Analytical Grammar, Analytical Grammar: Mechanics, Editing Fiction at Sentence Level by Louise Harnby and Developmental Editing by Scott Norton. She is currently taking a Developmental Editing: Foundations of Storytelling course through Club Ed, LLC and she recently volunteered to be a judge for the 2024 Escondido Writers Group short story contest in California.

Although Joanna enjoys reading various genres from historical fiction to sci-fi/fantasy, and Christian living, she is passionate about her crime, mystery, thriller & suspense novels. Even more so, if those genres are blended with romance, paranormal, supernatural, and/or Christian fiction.

Some of her favorite books in those genres are Kathy Reichs’ Deja Dead, Dee Henderson’s Traces of Guilt, Kay Hooper’s Bishop/Special Crime Unit series, and Dean Koontz’s From the Corner of His Eye.

Her editorial strengths include developmental editing, and line editing.

Barbara is an Air Force vet and an editor at Global Bookworms. She attended university where she obtained her Bachelors in Education, emphasis in English, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She then focused on her Masters, graduating with honors.  She enjoys being able to put those degrees to use in both her career and as an author,  writing for over 30 years with over two dozen books to her name and counting. As an author, also subject to reviews, she created a 5-star rating system to aid in providing a fair assessment of the books people read.

Barbara enjoys various genres, but her love lies in suspense and thrillers. She is not fond of the standard romance novels, rather prefers novels of suspense with romance woven into the story, as something that drives the story along. Her favorite genres are crime thrillers or works of espionage in which the characters are more than just detectives or agents, rather offering a level of humanity. Think Clive Cussler and his characters Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino or Kathy Reichs and her characters Temperance Brennan and Agent Seely Booth in the beloved series Bones. Though many of Cussler’s works were turned into movies, they did not do the works justice, in this editor’s opinion. Barbara is also fond of a particular type of horror along the lines of Dean Koontz. A few of her other favorite authors are J.K. Rowling, Edgar Allan Poe, Diana Gabaldon, and Julie Garwood.

Barbara has spent 20+ years working with authors to help assist them in preparing their manuscripts for publication, meticulously reading their works to ensure that what is put out is worth reading. Her editorial strengths include copyediting and proofreading.
